- Red Sox came back to win anyway.
– Jose Iglesias and Pedro Ciriaco went 6-8 with two doubles.

Jeremy Guthrie has allowed 18 runs (17 earned) in his last three starts, after allowing 13 (12 earned) in his first seven.

The Pirates won a game in Milwaukee.

The Yankees won a series at the Trop. They hadn’t done that in three years.
- Fernando Rodney’s ERA is over 6.
– Vidal Nuno and Matt Moore both struck out two over six innings.

Mike Minor homered.
- Minor came into the game with a career .074/.123/.102 line. Even among pitchers, few are worse than that.
– Ike Davis got a hit!
— It was off Craig Kimbrel.

Angel Pagan inside-the-park walkoff home run.
- That’s the first ITP walkoff HR since 2004.

The Marlins tied the game on a home run in the ninth.
- They lost anyway. That’s back to back walkoff wins for the White Sox.

Matt Kemp was double-switched out of a one-run game.
- Nick Punto is hitting .340/.427/.420 in 120 PAs.

The Astros had two players hit two homers.
- They still lost. By six runs.

Freddy Garcia outpitched RA Dickey.
- Emilio Bonifacio homered. So did Danny Valencia.

Everth Cabrera has homered on back-to-back nights.
- He already has four home runs for a career high.
– In fact, prior to this year, over 1137 PAs, he only had five total home runs.

Scott Barnes had a save for the Indians.
– The Indians won the game 12-3.

Travis Snider hit a triple.
– That’s his third triple…in his career.
— This season, the Cubs have more RBIs from their number-nine hitter (18) than the cleanup spot (16).
—- To further emphasize this we will gently remind our readers that the Cubs are an NL team.

Anthony Gose scored from second on a passed ball.

Joe Blanton won a game.

Justin Verlander gave up five runs in five innings.
- He’s still in line for the win, though the game is currently going on.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia threw out two would-be base-stealers today.
- He was previously one for eighteen on the season in that category.
– David Ortiz stole a base.
— Third base, to boot.

Ryan Howard infield double.
- If you think that sounds weird, well, just check out the video. He got quite the swing on that one.
– This was the last game of a nine-game homestand for the Marlins. They hit one home run.
— It was by Juan Pierre.

Matt Harvey: 6.2 IP, 4 R.
- Zack Cozart went 4-for-4 against him.

Ross Wolf and Neal Cotts combined for seven innings of one-run ball for the Rangers.

Ramiro Pena homer!
- He has as many homers this year, in only 68 PA, as he did over 338 PA prior to this year.

– Matt Garza hit a two-run double.

Jeff Keppinger homered.

Chris Dickerson hit two home runs tonight.
- He had one coming into tonight’s game…
– …and had hit two all of last season.

Aaron Harang struck out Mike Trout.
– Of course, Mike Trout then proceeded to hit for the cycle.
— He’s the first player age 21 or under to do so since A-Rod, and the sixth player under the age of 22 to hit for cycle since 1916: Mel Ott, Cliff Heathcote, Arky Vaughan, Cesar Cedeno, A-Rod (via @ktsharp.

Yu Darvish lost.
– Despite surrendering just one run.
— He was out-pitched by Dan Straily, who came into the game with a 7.27 ERA and WHIP of 1.462.
—- Straily, of course, pitches seven innings of shut-out baseball.

After saving 35 straight games, Jim Johnson has now blown three straight save opportunities.
- Also, Johnson blew three save opportunities in all of 2012.
– The Orioles have lost their last two games where they had a lead after seven innings.
— They won 109 straight games where they had a lead after seven prior to that, the MLB record.
—- Travis Hafner stole a base.
—– This is actually his second stolen base of the year.
—— He stole two bases from 2009 through 2012, spanning 372 games. (h/t @ktsharp)
——- It’s also notable that Freddy Garcia gave up just two runs over six innings to the Yankees.
——– While throwing just 66 pitches.

Miguel Tejada homer.
- The Royals still lost.
– To the Astros.

With the score tied in the ninth inning, Endy Chavez hit a pinch-hit home run off Chris Perez to put the Mariners ahead, 7-6.
- In the bottom of the ninth, still trailing, the Indians had two on with two out, when Carlos Santana hit a ground ball to first base. Justin Smoak tossed the ball to closer Tom Wilhelmsen, who was covering first – only Wilhelmsen dropped the ball and the Indians tied the game.
– In the tenth inning, Justin Smoak homered (!!!).
— That’s actually the second homer in three games for him.
—- Still, the Indians walked off in the tenth inning on a Yan Gomes home run.
—– Which was his second homer of the game.
—— The Indians swept this four-game series. Three of four wins were walk-offs; in the other game, they scored six runs off Felix in five innings.
——- Also, the Indians are leading the majors in home runs.

Matt Kemp homer!
- Bizarro YCPB.
– Now, he finally has as many home runs as Juan Uribe.

Juan Nicasio threw 6 innings of 3-hit shutout ball.
- Colorado shut the Giants out at Coors Field. It’s just the second time this year they have held opponents scoreless at home.
– The other opponent they held scoreless at home was the Yankees.

Felix Hernandez got knocked out after five innings, allowing six runs (five earned).
- Former Cy Young winners are 1-7 with an ERA over eight against the Indians this year (h/t ESPN). They’ve beaten RA Dickey, David Price, Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Bartolo Colon, Justin Verlander, and now Felix.

Hideki Okajima threw a scoreless inning.
- This was his first big league game in over two years.

Jeff Keppinger walked again.
- On four pitches. Again.
– The Angels won.
— Albert Pujols is down to .241/.314/.418.

Travis Wood homered.
- Onto Waveland Avenue.
– Wood now has hit exactly one homer in each of the past four seasons.
— He also allowed three runs in seven innings.
—- Carlos Marmol pitched a scoreless inning.
—– The Cubs still lost.
—— The Mets bullpen pitched four perfect innings.

Francisco Rodriguez has yet to allow a baserunner.

The Marlins won.
- Jeff Mathis doubled.

Matt Moore walked just one and struck out just three over seven innings.
- He is 8-0.
– Fernando Rodney pitched a 1-2-3 inning.

Lucas Harrell allowed one run in seven strong innings.
- That was an opposite field solo shot from Pedro Alvarez that just cleared the wall in the left field corner.
– That was enough though. Astros lost.
— They only struck out six times.
—- Michael McKenry caught a base stealer for just the second time all year.

Atlanta entered the 8th inning down by one.
- With the bases loaded, they tied the game on a single by Gerald Laird.
– Then took the lead on a sac fly from Ramiro Pena.
— The Dodgers are eight games under .500.

The game isn’t over yet, but the Tigers/Rangers game is 9-7, in the sixth.
- It was 4-1, 5-4, and 7-5.
– Miguel Cabrera homered three times, which is remarkable but not necessarily unpredictable, but the Tigers losing 11-8 despite that probably is.
— The Tigers have actually lost both of Cabrera’s three-homer games.

Aroldis Chapman took to the hill with a 2-1 lead and faced just three batters.
- First, he walked Delmon Young on four pitches. The last four pitch unintentional walk Young received was last September, issued by Ubaldo Jimenez.
– Young was lifted for pinch runner Cliff Lee.
— This is actually already the fourth time Lee’s pinch-ran this year.
—- Lee was promptly picked off.
—– Erik Kratz then tied the game. It was his third homer of the year. He had a career .391 slugging.
—— Freddy Galvis then won the game with a walkoff homer. This was his sixth career homer.
——- Chapman has never allowed two homers in an outing before.

(h/t to @CrashburnAlley for the Reds/Phillies stuff)

Brendan Ryan hit a home run.
– The home run comes a day after he had the first extra-base hit for the Mariners this year.
— The home run also came in the same game as a Justin Smoak home run.

J.J. Hardy and Paul Konerko both had infield hits.
– Jim Johnson blew a save — the second time this week he’s done so.

The White Sox and Angels, who rank 15th and 11th in the AL in runs scored, played a 12-9 game.

The Rockies have won two in a row against the San Francisco Giants.
– This is notable because, according to <http://twitter.com/troyrenck>@troyrenck it’s the first time that’s happened since May 16-17…2011.

— He then scored on a sac fly.
—- Via @crashburnalley, with two wins in 1.1 IP, reliever Justin De Fratus has more wins than Cole Hamels, David Price, and Josh Beckett, among others.

There were a total of 30 hits in the Rays-Orioles game.
– The starters, Jeremy Hellickson and Jason Hamel, gave up 10 hits each.
— Nate McClouth tripled.
—- The Orioles actually had two triples tonight; they’d had one all season heading into tonight’s game.

Aramis Ramirez had six RBI tonight…which doubled his season total to 12.

The much-hyped Darvish/Verlander matchup turned out to be a total dud. It’s not over yet, but the score is 10-4.
- Verlander’s line: 2.2 IP, 6 H, 8 R/ER, 2 BB, 3 K.
– This is the fourth time he’s given up 8 ER, which ties a career high.
— His ERA is still only 3.17.
—- Don Kelly homered for Detroit.
—– Off Darvish, mind you.

Oliver Perez got the win tonight.
- His ERA is 1.08.

The Marlins tied the game against the Reds in the ninth with two triples.
- Adeiny Hechavarria and Marcell Ozuna hit those triples.
– They hit them, respectively, off Mat Latos (who threw 8.1 innings of two-run ball) and Aroldis Chapman.
— The other run Latos gave up was a home run to Juan Pierre.
—- You read that right.
—– Ozuna’s triple was just the second triple Chapman ever allowed. The first was also to the Marlins.
—— The Reds still won.

Francisco Rodney blew yet another save.
- He has allowed nine runs and 15 walks, or as many total runs and walks as he gave up last year.

Matt Cain has given up six earned runs in six innings.
- He gave up three home runs – in the first three innings.
– The game isn’t over, but the Giants are currently winning.

The Pirates won three of four against the Brewers.
- Francisco Liriano has won both his starts and has a 1.64 ERA.
