Daily Roundup, 07/15/12

The Orioles, who are still in second place in the AL East, have the second-worst run differential in the AL.
- Tied with the Royals.

Not only did the fake-to-first-throw-to-third move work in Angels/Yankees…
- it led to a double play.
– Maicer Izturis homered.
— He was slugging .266 coming into today.
—- Erick Aybar also homered; he has three home runs in his past four games.
—– Jered Weaver gave up ten hits, five runs, and three home runs.
—— and still got the win.
——- Ernesto Frieri gave up his first runs as an Angel, and actually had to be removed from the game without getting a single out in the ninth inning, after coming in with the Angels up 10-5.
——– It took 26.1 innings for him to give up those runs.

The As are a game out of playoff position.

The Padres scored seven runs.
- Only one was earned.

The Cubs are undefeated since the All-Star Break!
- They swept the Diamondbacks.

Ben Sheets’ last big league win was July 10, 2010. He missed all of 2011.
- Today, in his first start in nearly two years, he shut out the Mets for six innings.
– Oddly enough, in his last win he also threw six innings, giving up just two hits, no runs, and a walk. The only difference is that against the Angels, he had four strikeouts, and today he had two.
— Johan Santana also walked Sheets.

    Sheets had 5 Ks today.

  2. Oddball says:

You mean, ‘Fake to third, throw to first.’ But yes, it worked. [sigh]
