NL Wild Card Game, 10/01/13

The Pirates won!
- This was their first postseason win since 1992.
– The last pitcher to win a playoff game for the Pirates was a rookie named… Tim Wakefield.
— The Pirates now have more postseason wins this year than the Steelers have wins at all.
—- Marlon Byrd home run. Which isn’t unpredictable this year – but the fact that it took him eleven seasons to get to the playoffs, and he hit a home run in his first at-bat, is.
—– Joey Votto went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts and looked awful at the plate.
—— Francisco Liriano, a career .078 hitter (and .064 this year), got a hit.
——- Neil Walker doubled while batting righty. This year, he had a .518 OPS from the right side, with only one XBH.
——– It wasn’t all bad for the Reds, I guess. Shin-Soo Choo hit his first homer off a lefty since June 2012.
