Daily Roundup, 09/22/10

- Before this year, in the history of Citizens Bank Park, there had only been five 1-0 games, total. Tonight was the sixth 1-0 game at Citizens Bank Park this year. Since July!

- Luke Gregerson of the Padres just set the all-time record for holds in a season. Um… yay?

- Since the last time the Cardinals were in first place, they’ve gone 3-20 against teams with losing records. h/t @dgoold
– They lost 11-6 to the Pirates today. THE PIRATES!!!!
— Charlie Morton got win number… two.

- I’m watching the Rockies/Diamondbacks game, and they’re currently in the bottom of the eighth with two outs. The Diamondbacks have struck out thirteen times. Of course, they’re winning and have scored 8 runs.
– The Rockies scored four runs in the top of the first for Ubaldo Jimenez… and they lost.

- Today, the As lost for the first time when leading after 8 innings. That leaves only one team in all of baseball that’s undefeated after leading after eight. And it’s… the mighty mighty Royals? Sure.

- Carlos Beltran missed the cycle by a double. The Mets still lost.
– Jon Niese’s line, which I find totally bizarre: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 6 R/ER, 6 BB, 7 K, 115 pitches/65 strikes.

- Speaking of weird pitching lines, Johnny Cueto: 1.1 IP, 8 H, 8 R/ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 49 pitches/24 strikes.
– Oh and this unmitigated disaster start only brought his ERA up to 3.73.
— Aaron Harang got beat up too. Then again, these days, that isn’t so unpredictable.

- The Twins’ lineup today, after they were the first to clinch their division -
– And let me interrupt this to say that after the way the AL Central has ended the past two years, that’s pretty unpredictable too -
— But anyway, the lineup: Span, Casilla, Kubel, Valencia, Morales, Tolbert, Revere, Repko, Butera. They STILL beat Cleveland 5-1.

- Jose Lopez of Seattle hit three home runs. It brought him to a whopping ten on the year.
– ETA so you can all laugh at me: I wrote “Felipe Lopez” originally. This would’ve been even more unpredictable, as he was DFAd yesterday. Oops.

  1. glp says:

The fact that the Royals haven’t lost a game when leading after eight innings just tells you how good Joakim Soria really is.

    • Yep – also that they don’t have a lot of opportunities compared to other teams. If Oakland had gotten that save, it wouldn’t been 69 (ha ha /12 years old) straight where they won when leading after 8. The Royals are currently at 48.
